One of the most significant events in labor law history occurred in Ludlow in 1914, when most Colorado coal mines were controlled by just a few companies. Miners became increasingly intolerant of low wages and dangerous working conditions, and called for a strike in September 1913. Escalating tensions led to a violent clash on April 20, and the resulting national outrage paved the way for workers' rights in America.
