Description

  • Season two of the Emmy® Award-nominated ROUGH CUT returns to the workshop of fine furniture maker Tommy MacDonald, a graduate of Boston's famed North Bennet Street School. Once again, Tommy instructs and inspires aspiring woodworkers and master crafters alike, sharing his experience, his secrets, and his enthusiasm, inviting everyone with an interest in woodworking to acquire the basic skills and the tools to go beyond.

In Laminated Coat Rack, Tommy teaches the careful, step-by-step process of basic lamination. Then he travels out to Brookhaven, New York, where studio artist David Ebner is busy making his famous Scallion Coat Rack--a project that teaches both lamination and lathing techniques. Back in the shop, Tommy gets a visit from Steve Brown of the North Bennet Street School.

Featured in Forbes Magazine, Fine Woodworking Magazine, and The Boston Globe, Tommy's work has been displayed at the Massachusetts Historical Society, the Rhode Island School of Design Museum, and at the Concord Museum.
